YOGA - ghidul incepatorului / Beginner's Guide to Yoga

_DSC7018 copy.jpg

Yoga are opt ramuri: yamas (etica), nyamas (disciplina), asana (posturile), pranayama (respiratia), pratyahara (simturi), dharana (concentrare), dhiana (meditatia) si samadhi (autocunoasterea).

Poti fii in forma doar cu Yoga?

Acolo voi sustine si eu workshop-ul "How to become your own Wellness Warrior".

The answers to 5 of the most common questions about Yoga will help you discover a practice and a new lifestyle.

For me, Yoga is a daily presence. It is one of the habits that give me the energy, the balance and the connection between body and mind that I need to live the life I want. I invite you to read the answers to 5 of the most common questions about Yoga and discover your own pathway to a practice that will improve your life in all its aspects.

What is Yoga?

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word Yuj, which means to bind and unite. The first time we learn about Yoga is from the wise Indian Patanjali and his writings called Yoga Sutra, about 2000 years ago: a collection of 195 statements that serve as a philosophical guide for most of the Yoga practice today.

Yoga has eight branches: Yamas (ethics), Nyamas (discipline), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing), Pratyahara (senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhiana (meditation) and Samadhi (self-knowledge).

How many times a week should I practice?

Yoga is amazing. Even if you practice one hour per week, you will discover so many benefits! Most beneficial is to practice as often as you can, from my own experience I would recommend at least three times a week.

This ritual will help you in the future to practice Yoga constantly and become part of your lifestyle.

But do not let time constraints, unrealistic planning or goals be an obstacle. Follow your instinct and practice whenever you feel the need!

How is Yoga different from other types of physical activity?

Unlike other types of movement, Yoga is more than just physical activity. Even in its physical form, Yoga is unique because it connects body movement with the mind and the breathing.

Currently, most Yoga practitioners are most likely to access the third branch, Asana. These physical postures are meant to provide strength, resilience and flexibility and purify your body.

As we practice, we explore the rest of the branches and begin to change our behavior in the outer world and focus inward in order to manage to control our senses and our mind.

Can you get in shape only with Yoga?

The answer is certainly yes! Of all the advantages that it offers, Yoga builds and maintains a strong and lean body; you can see that all those practicing yoga frequently are in great shape, regardless of their body type.

Yoga is a complete exercise - your body will become more flexible and powerful, so will your mind.

Why practice Yoga?

Yoga can become a simple and healthy habit that you can integrate into your daily routine, a wonderful exercise that revitalizes your body and mind, being an excellent source of energy.

There are many and different benefits:

  • it is an intensive exercise that works every part of your body

  • improves blood circulation

  • helps digestion

  • stimulates the muscles, the respiratory system and the nervous system

  • tones the whole body, improving flexibility in general

  • strengthens the connection between body, breathing and mind, resulting in a state of calm and increased awareness

As we practice Yoga, we come to explore all the branches presented in the beginning, and this will improve our quality of life in all its aspects.

Where do you practice Yoga?

An ideal place to explore different styles of Yoga and to interact with the Yoga community is the Wellness Festival - the most important wellness event in Romania, already at its third edition. The Wellness Festival will take place this weekend, May 24-26, 2019, at Arcub Center and there you will be able to meet and practice with the biggest names in Yoga. Three international instructors that you should not miss and that I can not wait to practice are:

Josh Kramer, who combines Iyengar and Vinyasa styles and will teach you how to do handstands, Laruga Glasser, one of the few Ashtanga Yoga Level 2 certified instructors in the world and Julio Papi, known as a true fitness legend who practices and teaches Yoga with enormous passion and dedication, and from which I had the opportunity to learn this practice.

Besides Yoga, I also recommend to try the nutrition workshops, held by experts in the field.

I will also keep the workshop "How to become your own Wellness Warrior". In the 60 minutes we will explore what it means to have a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we will discuss the nutrients the body needs to thrive, how to prepare super-nutritious, plant-based meals in a simple and efficient way, how to handle cravings and eating out, sleep and hydration and other habits that you can easily incorporate into your everyday life.

The workshop will end with a preview of #MyQuestforWellth documentary, filmed in California, in collaboration with the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Elle magazine, where I interviewed a number of experts on the latest trends and discoveries in the field of health.

You can find more information about the workshop and the rest of the activities and classes at the festival on www.wellnessfestival.ro

I hope to see you there and enjoy together this amazing weekend!
